DID YOU KNOW? Farmers think generationally. This is why sustainable farming methods are critically important to them. Some of these practices include tillage and cover crops. Many soybean farmers also grow corn alternating their acres. Their practices deliver increased yields while reducing costs and guaranteeing sustainable practices.
EXAMPLE In the 70’s, farmers reported harvesting 27 bushels @ acre and sold them for $7 @bushel. Today, they harvest 70 bushels @ acre and sell them for $13 @ bushel. They anticipate a 10% increase annually. Because the Global Positioning Systems (GPS) are available on most farming equipment, farmers are able to monitor and control how they farm and evaluate the results on an on-going basis. The results of these practices is a +7% fertilizer placement efficiency, a -9% usage in herbicides, a -6% fossil fuel usage, and a -4% reduction in water usage. Tillage and planting cover crops effectively help slow global climate change because they support carbon sequestration.
