Hinrichs shares many traits of the Founders of the Diolkos Wagonway, especially innovative thinking, providing practical solutions that deliver successful results, improving the efficient transport of goods while maintaining a sincere humility.

His leadership has had a transformative impact at CSX as well as on the Supply Chain. An outstanding example is his leadership with working with unions.

In February 2023, Hinrichs was the first CEO of a Class One Railroad to sign a contract with the unions ending 3 years of difficult negotiations which included a Presidential intervention. The lack of Paid Sick Leave had become a major issue. A trailblazer, Hinrichs was the first CEO to find a solution and to sign the contract. He led the way. The other RRs followed.

Again in the summer of 2024, Hinrichs was the first CEO to reach agreements with 10 of the 13 largest rail unions months before their contract expired in 12/2024. This had never happened before in the history of rail.

Hinrichs believes unions are part of customer service and are members of the One CSX team, not adversaries. This refreshing perspective has definitely benefited the CSX bottom line, improved the working environment, and promoted better cooperation throughout the Supply Chain.
